Why now is the perfect time to try Pilates at home?

Whether you already know Pilates or its new to you, this type of workout will test your abs, put your core to work, get your body into a ballet dancer’s posture and teach you how to breathe properly through anything…

Joseph Pilates, a German physical trainer, invented and promoted the Pilates Method in the early 20th century.

Born a sickly child, he dedicated his entire life to improving his physical strength. With much determination, he was able to find a way to transform his frail body into a strong one by combining muscular strength training, yoga, gymnastics, martial arts and studying the movements of animals.

He developed his training technique further during the first World War when he was interned in a prisoner’s camp.

During that time, Pilates carried on teaching his method to all the other soldiers there. In 1918, the Spanish Influenza broke out and swept through the overcrowded camps, killing thousands and thousands of the detainees.

To everyone’s astonishment, not a single person died of the flu in Pilate’s camp and the only difference identified was the daily exercise he had taught the residents there.

Pilates and rehabilitation

Pilates is a fantastic way to treat injuries (knees, back, hips, shoulders etc). It helps with muscle fatigue and is super gentle on all of your joints. It can even be an excellent complement to Physical therapy!!!

While the physical therapist helps the patient through all of their rehab motions, the Pilates instructor makes the patient learn how to rehab themselves and have a better understanding of how the body works.

Muscular imbalance will be prevented by strengthening the core. Stress on the pelvis and spine will be reduced by a an even musculature and a proper posture.

More great news? Most insurance companies will cover your Pilates session’s fees!

At Carrefour Multisports, we have a certified team of specialists to assist you and a complete studio with all the «apparatus».

The most famous piece of equipment is the Reformer, a bed-like wood frame with a flat platform on it which rolls back and forth on wheels within the frame and is attached by a set of springs. A wide variety of exercises are done on the Reformer to promote length, strength, flexibility and balance. It is extremely versatile!

Of course, you don’t necessarily need a Pilates Reformer to build abdominal muscles and improve your breathing from your living room but if you’re new to the discipline, a professional’s instruction can go a long way.

That’s why Carrefour Multisport’s online platform provides wonderful Pilates classes that can be done at home without equipment!

Tune in to watch Maria Caruana, our top expert, show you how to perform Pilates mouvements with the right technique, raising your body’s awareness and getting you in a routine in which all the motions will flow more naturally with time.
