At Carrefour Multisports, we aim to help you reach your goals in a judgment-free and friendly environment. We want to make sure you are doing everything right throughout your fitness journey so you can exceed your potential. We’re letting you know about 5 Workout Tips for Gym Beginners!
1. Not using enough weight.
We know that a lot of people like to play it safe when it comes to working out. If you’re worried about injury or have not yet built the confidence to lift more, this a good caution to take. But you should know that lifting too little weight may not bring you the results you need. Working out safely is important, but so is surpassing your goals. If you can perform 30 reps or more with a certain weight, then it is time to take it to the next level. Try increasing the weights you use in 5 pound increments and see how it feels. If you can still do closer to 30 reps, then try increasing it again. Remember to always workout in a way that you feel comfortable in that doesn’t require too much strain, but do not be afraid to push yourself a little bit.
2. Don’t use too much weight!
We know that you want to reach your goals as fast as possible and obtain the summer body you’ll be proud of, but using too much weight too soon, is not advisable. A proper gym workout routine takes time to evolve. You should always start with lower than your expected strength capacity and work your way to heavier weights. If your form suffers, or you are using momentum in your movement, then this indicates that you’re using too much weight and not giving your body the proper workout it needs. If you’re wondering how to best workout safely and reach your goals, then do not be shy to speak with one of our personal trainers. They are there to help you find your potential and guide you through the process.
3. Not giving your body enough time to rest.
Not resting your muscles long enough is a killer to your potential and can negatively impact the results from your workout routine. Muscles need some time to relax in order to build their strength back so you can workout longer. However, if you rest too long between reps, then this can put your muscles in a state of inertia and limit how well you can workout during your next set. The recommended rest period between reps should be 30-90 seconds.
4. Don’t Workout too fast
When you are doing your repetitions with weights, it’s important not to do them too quickly. There is no reward for lifting weights fast and without control. Doing so will put more stress on your joints and has the potential to damage them. For a full and proper workout, you should do every rep in a slow, controlled movement. This activates more of your muscle fibres, ensuring that your muscles are getting the full benefit of a workout.
